An Adult Psychiatrist in Brooklyn, or Online

In person in Brooklyn: Our office is at 26 Court Street, Suite 1510, in Downtown Brooklyn, steps from the Borough Hall and Court Street subway stations. Adults come to us from Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, DUMBO, Lower Manhattan, and across NYC for psychiatric evaluations, medication management, TMS, and Spravato® treatment.

Online psychiatry: If a trip to the office doesn’t fit your week, you can meet with an adult psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner through secure, HIPAA-compliant video. Telepsychiatry visits work well for evaluations, medication check-ins, and dose adjustments, and many patients switch between in-person and online appointments as their schedule changes. Telehealth is available to patients physically located in New York State at the time of the visit, and in select other states depending on your provider’s license.

Booking Your First Psychiatry Appointment

  1. Contact us. Book online, submit the appointment form, or call (718) 522-3600, Monday–Friday, 9 am–7 pm. Same- or next-day appointments are often available.
  2. Get matched. A patient care coordinator will ask about your symptoms, any current medications, your insurance, and your schedule, then pair you with the right adult psychiatric provider.
  3. Attend your evaluation. Your first visit is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Your provider reviews your history, discusses a diagnosis, and builds a treatment plan with you, which may include medication, therapy, or both.

Ready to feel more like yourself?

You don’t have to figure out the right treatment on your own. Book an appointment with one of our adult psychiatrists in Brooklyn or online, or call (718) 522-3600 and we’ll help you choose the right provider.

FAQ

How do I find an adult psychiatrist near me in Brooklyn or NYC?

Start by thinking about what you need help with, whether you prefer in-person or online visits, and which insurance you have. You can browse our providers’ bios above, or call (718) 522-3600 and a patient care coordinator will match you with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner at our Downtown Brooklyn office or online.

What's the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse practitioner?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who completed residency training in psychiatry. A board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) holds advanced nursing training specialized in mental health. In New York, both can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and manage your treatment. Our coordinators can help you decide which provider fits your needs.

Do your adult psychiatrists accept insurance?

Yes. We accept most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, Empire BCBS, Anthem, Oscar, Optum, 1199SEIU, and Medicare. Call us to confirm your coverage before your first visit.

What happens at the first psychiatric evaluation?

Your provider will ask about your current symptoms, mental health and medical history, past treatments, and daily life. Based on this conversation, they’ll discuss a diagnosis and recommend a treatment plan. Medication is one option, not an automatic outcome, and you’ll make decisions together.

Can an adult psychiatrist prescribe medication online?

Yes. Our providers can evaluate you, prescribe, and adjust medications through telepsychiatry. Some medications, such as certain controlled substances used for ADHD, may be subject to additional federal or state rules, so your provider will explain whether an in-person visit is needed.

Do I need therapy as well as medication management?

Not always, but many adults do best with both. If your psychiatrist recommends therapy, we can coordinate care with one of our in-house psychotherapists, so your providers stay on the same page about your progress.
