Psychiatry and Therapy for Members with UMR-Administered Plans
If your employer’s health plan is administered by UMR, you can use it for psychiatric and therapy care at Good Health Psychiatric Services. Good Health accepts UMR plans for covered services, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual therapy, and TMS and Spravato for depression that has not improved with medication. Because UMR manages plans that your employer pays for, your UMR mental health coverage is set by your employer’s plan, and our team checks those details for you before your first visit.
UMR is a UnitedHealthcare company and the largest third-party administrator in the country. Our board-certified psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and licensed therapists see UMR members at our Downtown Brooklyn office and by telehealth in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Connecticut, with same-day and next-day appointments often available.

What UMR Members Can Expect at Good Health
- Billing to your UMR plan for covered services, so you pay only your plan’s share
- A benefits check that reads your employer’s specific rules, not general UMR guidelines
- Office visits in Brooklyn or telehealth sessions, both billed through UMR
- TMS and Spravato for qualifying patients, when your employer’s plan covers them
- Help with prior authorization when your plan requires it
Because UMR administers self-funded employer plans, your deductibles, copays, and authorization requirements are set by your employer, not by UMR. This page describes general features and does not guarantee coverage or payment. Check your Summary Plan Description (SPD) or contact UMR for your exact benefits.
Mental Health Services Covered Through UMR at Good Health
Initial Evaluation
Your care begins with a full psychiatric evaluation with a board-certified psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. Your clinician reviews your symptoms, background, and any earlier treatment, screens for related conditions, and works out a treatment plan with you. Most employer plans administered by UMR cover this evaluation as outpatient behavioral health care.
Medication Management for UMR Members
If medication is part of your treatment, a psychiatrist who accepts UMR prescribes it and sees you for regular follow-up visits. These visits track your response, adjust doses when needed, and address side effects. UMR covered psychiatry follow-ups are billed as outpatient care, and your prescriber checks your plan's pharmacy list, which is often managed by Optum Rx, to keep medication costs down.
Personalized Therapy for UMR Plan Members
Good Health's therapists who accept UMR plans include licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), licensed mental health counselors (LMHCs), and psychologists. Depending on your concerns, therapy may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-focused therapy, solution-focused therapy, or another evidence-based approach. Most employer plans cover outpatient therapy, though session limits and copays are set by your employer.
Does UMR Cover TMS Therapy?
It depends on your employer's plan, and many plans do cover it. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment for major depressive disorder that has not responded to antidepressants. Plans that cover TMS usually require prior authorization and proof that earlier medication trials did not help. Good Health confirms whether your plan includes TMS and handles the authorization request before treatment begins.
Spravato (Esketamine) with a UMR Plan
Spravato is an FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression, or with major depressive disorder and active suicidal thoughts. Each dose is given at our Brooklyn office, and a clinician monitors you through the full observation period. When your employer's plan covers Spravato, prior authorization and medical necessity criteria apply, and our clinical team prepares and submits that request.
Coverage depends on the plan your employer designed. Good Health reviews your specific benefits before your first visit so you know your costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Good Health Psychiatric Services accepts UMR-administered employer plans for covered psychiatric and therapy services. Since every UMR plan is designed by an employer, our team verifies your specific benefits, network, and authorization rules at no charge before your first appointment, so you know your costs in advance.
No. UMR is a third-party administrator (TPA): your employer pays for the health plan, and UMR processes claims and manages the plan for them. UMR describes itself as the largest TPA in the United States, with more than 3,800 benefit plans and about 6 million members. UMR is a UnitedHealthcare company, which is why your card may also show a UnitedHealthcare network.
Your network name is printed on your UMR ID card. Many UMR plans use the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus network for medical care, and mental health benefits are often handled through Optum, UnitedHealthcare’s behavioral health network. If a practice says it does not take UMR, ask whether it takes the network on your card. Good Health checks this for you.
Your Summary Plan Description (SPD) lists your mental health benefits, including copays, visit limits, and whether you need a referral. You can also log in at umr.com or call the behavioral health number on your ID card. Because your employer designs the plan, two people with UMR cards can have very different coverage, so our team confirms the details of yours before you book.
Your cost depends on the copay, coinsurance, and deductible your employer set for mental health care. Most employer group plans must follow the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, which means mental health benefits cannot be more restrictive than comparable medical benefits. Good Health sends you an estimate based on your plan before your first visit and can help document medical necessity if a claim is denied.
